Compassionate hearts: Saving baby mynah and woodpecker

In an inspiring display of compassion, residents of Adyar and Besant Nagar recently rescued baby birds in need.

C.Namachivayam, a resident of Venkatrathnam Nagar, informed Adyar Times of this elderly lady who cared for a baby mynah. He narrates: At the Adyar bus stop (opposite the mosque), I saw an old lady on the platform selling her wares. And she was feeding water to a baby mynah. On enquiring as to where she got him, she replied that he had fallen off his nest and she had adopted him. “Can I take a picture?” I asked. “Of course,” she said and held her adopted child close to her cheek. In prevailing times, where human-to-human compassion itself is getting rare, finding such kindness in the heart of an old lady who struggles even to make a day-to-day living, made my day.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
