Diversions due to CMRL work

The Chennai Metro Rail Limited has undertaken the project for constructing the metro station and rail network that passes through Adyar. Below are the diversions that will be in place starting May 15, in Adyar.

The road from the Adyar signal (underneath the flyover) to the junction of B.Ramachandra Adithanar Road (Gandhi Nagar 4th main Road) will be closed for traffic except for those coming from Besant Avenue. The traffic from S.P.Road will be diverted through the 2nd Cross Street – B.Ramachandra Adithanar Road and then leading to the Dr.Muthulakshmi Reddy Road (L.B.Raod, near Malar Hospital). Vehicles coming from L.B.Road, going towards Malar Hospital, will have to take the left at the Adyar signal and take a U-turn at the Adyar Bus stand (Gandhi Nagar).

There are many schools in and around proposed B. R. Adithanar Salai and heavy traffic on this road will be dangerous. Instead the Adyar flyover can be made two way, and the traffic from L.B.Road, S P Road and OMR towards north can be allowed to use the flyover.
This will ease the bottle neck, and the school students can be safe. Alternatively, flyover can allow south to north traffic, and the present vehicles from Thiru Vika bridge can use the ground level road.

Adyar Times was established in Chennai in the year 1993, founded by Mr.S.P.Ambrose, IAS (Retd.). The concept of a newspaper for the neighbourhood was a novel idea then. The English weekly (Sunday) now boasts a circulation of 42000 copies with an average of 16 pages per issue.
